Passport to the Corner Office The Starter Guide to Corporate Life RJ King 9781484961599 Books Reviews
RJ nailed it with his new book. I am a firm believe that relationships matter most and this book lays a great foundation for building and maintaining strong and lasting relationships. We are measured by what we do, what we say and how we act. Passport is a must read for anyone wanting to get on...and stay on...the right path.
R.J. King's new book, "Passport to the Corner Office" is a great book for professionals of all types who are looking to grow their careers. College students will also find it to be extremely helpful. R.J. uses his extensive experience as an award-winning reporter and the things he has learned along the way from interacting with successful local, regional and national business leaders to provide insights on how to succeed and real-world, practical examples that bring them to life.
As a recent college graduate looking for a full-time job in the corporate world, "Passport to the Corner Office" is an amazing resource. They don't teach you about office politics or event planning or sincere apologies in college, but these topics are all crucial knowledge in the real world. At this point in my life, I have transferrable skills and a desire to succeed, but I lack experience. Reading "Passport" helped me to absorb some of the lessons that only time can teach, especially that the secret to being a good employee--or really, a good anything--is to add value. "Passport" certainly will add value to the lives of any recent graduates like myself seeking to rise to the top.
I am very impressed with the content offered in Passport to the Corner Office. R.J. King takes on the role of mentor and coach as he guides the reader through corporate life. The book provides the new employee with the hard and soft facts of how to navigate through the company providing detailed insight from Mr. King's years of working. The result is a win-win for employee and company. The reader learns more about how to add value to the company, and the company gains by having a more alert and productive employee. To me, the book is about optimizing the employee's engagement and commitment to helping the business succeed. I have purchased several copies of the book for high school and college graduation gifts, confident that the material will provide a supportive road map for future movers and shakers.
"Passport To The Corner Office" is a concise guide that will provide information for the youngest entrepreneur to students to seasoned professionals. I enjoyed reading this book and being reminded of all the little things it takes to be the best professional possible while being enlightened with real life examples. After reading this book, I felt this would make a great gift for a high school graduate or a college student. Sometimes we forget about how our actions today could impact our future tomorrow. I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those who are heading to college or trying to advance their career. For those who are already professionals, this book will reinforce key concepts. We may not all get to the corner office or be the CEO, but this book can help all of us succeed in many aspects of our lives.
As a recent college graduate with a non-business degree, I can say with certainty that this book is a must-read for anyone between the ages of 18 and 30. In today's economy, you never know where you will end up after graduation, but this book teaches you the skills to get where you want to be.
The best part? It reads as if a colleague is speaking to you about how to succeed in a corporate world. There is no elitism, no pretentiousness. Mr. King manages to pack a wealth of information into a quick and easy read. The book is organized extremely well, so that a reader can quickly reference it if they need immediate advice.
I received this as an early graduation gift, and I highly recommend it to anyone entering the job market!
R.J. King's new book, "Passport to the Corner Office" offers the reader many tips on how to act, dress, and what to do at events and even how to play politics in the office. It gives the reader a plan of action of things to do and things not to do as he/she is building their career. It is a must read for the person new to the business scene and a great review for someone like myself who has been around a while. Plus, the anecdotes are fun and insightful. He also says that you need to do what is right at all times and take responsibility for mistakes. And, he says it is important to work with public relations professionals at the right time(s) in ones career. I like that a lot.
RJ King has made a career of listening to the best and brightest in business and now we are the recipients of what he's heard for the past 25 years. Passport to the Corner Office provides a clear, concise and thoughtful approach at starting, building and managing a successful career.
